GARABOU ORGANIC COTTON SOCKS are made of yarn, Japanese traditional indigo dyeing and the unique Japanese spinning method "Garabou", resulting in a rich, hand-spun texture. Indigo dyeing is a natural dyeing process that has deodorizing, insecticidal, and antibacterial properties. We use indigo-dyed yarn dyed with the traditional technique called natural fermentation construction.

日本独自の紡績方法「ガラ紡」の糸と藍染の糸を引き揃えた特別な一足です。締め付けの少ない編み地で優しく編み立てているので、ルームソックスとしておうち時間に履くと心地よく毎日に寄り添ってくれます。とても豊かな風合いで、タオルのように優しく足を包み込んでくれます。爪先のワンポイントも藍染です。

About GARABOU

Spinning methods in Japan “Garabou”, reusing in a rich hand-spun texture. “Garabou” was invented in 1877 as a way to mechanically spin Japanese cotton, which has short fibers. The yarn we use is made by the one and only spinning companies in Japan and is made of recycled organic cotton. The unevenness and irregularity of the yarn makes it very comfortable to wear and is breathable.

Because of the uneven thickness of Garabou material, it cannot be knitted on a regular knitting machine. We use a 40-year-old sock knitting machine that was designed to knit a wide range of yarn thicknesses, which has been converted into a special knitting machine. Creating a unique look that cannot be duplicated by modern machines.

ガラ紡とは、日本独自で発達した紡績方法で、綿の繊維長が短い和綿を機械的に紡績する方法として江戸時代に考案されました。そんな特性を活かして、現在はオーガニックコットンの落ち綿を原料に使用しています。表情豊かで手紡ぎのような独自の風合いが楽しめます。不均一な凸凹とした独自のムラ感で空気をたくさん含むため、心地よい履心地です。

私たちが使っている糸は、日本で今も唯一ガラ紡の紡績を行う愛知県の紡績会社にお願いしています。現代の紡績機では決して表現することができない独特の表情をお楽しみください。

ガラ紡の素材は、太さが不均一の為、通常の編み機では編めません。 40年以上前の靴下編機を改造した、ヤマヤ独自の技法です。
